Boron carbide (B4C) is a very hard material which is used for wear-resistance materials. Depending on the manufacturing process, boron carbide is either a fine black powder or coarse black shiny crystals. Boron carbide is the hardest material which can be made synthetically and economically.
It is used in armouring materials, as a cutting material in tool machining, as a neutron absorber in nuclear power stations and as material for sand jetters.
