Pink and ruby corundum

Pink and ruby corundum are produced in the same way as white corundum (white-fused alumina). These two colours are obtained by adding different quantities of chromium oxide to the smelt. The corundum loses its brittleness as a result and becomes tough and hard.

As a result of the mixed crystal bonding, even at high temperatures there is no risk of water-soluble chromates forming.
